Description
American Painted Lady nectaring on a purple butterfly bush. The painted lady (Vanessa cardui) is the most widespread of all butterflies in the world. The painted lady is found on all continents, except for Australia and Antarctica. It is found from sub-Arctic Canada south to Panama. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, painted lady butterflies play a vital role in ecosystems as pollinators. As they flit from flower to flower, they transfer pollen, facilitating plant reproduction and ensuring genetic diversity.
