Description
A Rocky Mountain Pond Lily (Nuphar polysepalum) found at Ruth Lake in the Uinta Mountains, Utah.
This large, attractive, aquatic plant is also known as a Cowlily and can be found in large numbers covering the surface of beaver ponds or lakes. The plant's rootstalks are buried in the mud. These rootstalks are said to be stored by muskrats in their burrows. The Indians raided these caches for emergency food.

Superb capture, Marty! Do you have or can you snap a picture of internal organs (stamens and Carpel) of this flower? Just pluck a few petals in front to expose those organs. If a leaf of this plant is also in view that will be great. Love this flower and its unique structure. F/L.

Now, this is something really different from the regular pond lily. I've never seen one of these before and it is rather unusual. The center draws the eye because it is unusual in appearance. Your shot is very detailed and crisp--caught everything. Even the fly. Thanks for sharing.
